Thomas Wallmeyer (born 1965 in Soest, Germany) is a German painter. He obtained his degree at the University of Essen/Folkwang from their School of Design and, parallel to painting, has been commissioned as an illustrator and involved in various design projects since then.
The first and most significant element in Wallmeyer’s paintings is the vibrant color: layers of colors interacting with each other, overlapping and emerging from behind various stratums of paint. Bright, vivid patches of color that would virtually leap off of the canvas if it were not for the second element, the heavy, black line, keeping them in place, a remnant of his origins in drawing and sketch. Whether a human or a natural landscape, the black line is present in all of his paintings and serves as a framework where the colors reside.
As an artist, Wallmeyer is process-oriented, conceptual and travels his own artistic road. He strives to achieve a combination of perfect colors and forms and encourages the viewer to experience the harmony and beauty intended in his paintings.
Thomas Wallmeyer currently lives in Cologne, Germany.
